Hello, shutterbugs and visual storytellers,

Today, I’m not talking about bricks and deals, but about moments, light, and the stories they tell through the lens of my camera.

The Darkroom Days

My journey into photography began in the most traditional of ways: the high school darkroom. There was something magical about the process—watching images emerge from nothing under the dim, red glow of safety lamps, the smell of chemicals in the air, the anticipation of the reveal. It was here that my love for capturing life’s still moments was born.

Transition to Digital

Over the years, technology evolved, and so did my tools. I owned several digital cameras, each an improvement over the last, but it wasn’t until my thirties that I invested in a professional-grade camera. This wasn’t just an upgrade; it was an invitation to take my hobby more seriously.

Lens by Lens

My collection grew, with each lens offering a new perspective:

  • My 250mm lens became a favorite, allowing me to capture the essence of nature—birds in flight, animals in their natural habitat, the delicate details of flowers, and candid human moments, all without intrusion.

From Nature to Real Estate

Photography was always my escape, a passion project. But life has a way of intertwining your hobbies with your career. My real estate broker needed a photographer for listings, and I stepped in. What was supposed to be temporary turned into nearly two years of capturing homes. This experience introduced me to a new love:

  • Wide-angle lenses became my tools for showcasing properties, capturing the grandeur and space of homes in a way that digital listings couldn’t convey alone.

Back to the Passion

Although I enjoyed the work, I realized it was eating into time I could dedicate to other aspects of real estate. I eventually stepped back, but not before my photography had made a mark. I still offer my services to my clients and some other agents who appreciate the touch I bring to their listings.

Today’s Adventure

Today, I’m gearing up for a unique shoot. A house in St. Pete at twilight, lit up with fairy lights, selling not just a home but a lifestyle. It’s these assignments that remind me why I love photography—the excitement of capturing not just what is, but what could be.

Your Turn

Now, I’d love to hear about your photography journey:

  • What drew you into photography?
  • Do you have a favorite lens or shot that you’re particularly proud of?
  • Have you ever turned a hobby into a part of your professional life?

Photography, for me, has always been about more than just pictures; it’s about preserving memories, telling stories, and capturing the beauty in the mundane. Let’s share our visual tales and inspire each other to keep looking, keep capturing, and keep creating.

Looking forward to seeing the world through your lens,
David
